with Alzheimer Bulgaria and Every Dog Matters EU

Our Artistic Director Ellie Robinson-Carter completed a week-long residency in Bulgaria with Alzheimer Bulgaria. The residency was an amazing opportunity to learn about the country’s dementia landscape and their ageing population.

Ellie visited a nursing home with Alzheimer Bulgaria and Every Dog Matters EU where residents regularly interact with formerly stray dogs as part of The Dementia Dog Friends Project. One member of staff noted that: ‘the dogs need love, like the residents do…they both benefit from seeing each other’. Ellie worked with the residents, volunteers and carers to capture the experience on camera.

This project has resulted in a collection of photobooks centring around the four dogs who were at the nursing home that day: Aurora, Lucky, Pascal and Sharo. To find out more, check out Alzheimer Bulgaria's blog about our residency.
